As exterior walls take shape, Exterior Insulation Finish Systems (EIFS) are installed in layers. EIFS is a multi-layer exterior wall system that combines rigid foam insulation with a reinforced coating and a finished surface, helping control temperature and protect the building from moisture. Because these systems manage both insulation and moisture, they must be applied carefully and under the right conditions.
Inspecting Each Layer of the System
Our inspectors observe EIFS installation at multiple stages of construction, including:
- condition of the substrate (the surface the system is attached to)
- placement of the moisture barrier
- installation of insulation boards and reinforcing mesh
- application of base coat and final finish
- temperature and weather conditions during installation
Verifying Materials Before Installation
Before installation, materials are examined to confirm they are approved for the specific EIFS system being used and that they are properly stored on site. These checks help ensure materials perform as intended once installed.
Training and Certification Matter
Our staff maintains current EIFS certifications through regular training, allowing them to recognize issues early and verify that each layer of the system is installed correctly.
Protecting the Building Envelope
EIFS inspections help confirm that the exterior envelope is built to manage moisture, provide insulation, and protect the structure behind it. Verifying each step as it happens helps reduce the risk of future moisture intrusion and performance issues.
